NEWS FROM ELSTEAD PARISH COUNCIL

Reporting on the meeting held on 15th September 2008

Councillor Anne Thomas is keen to see a pedestrian crossing on the Milford Road, having received many comments from parents and villagers concerned about the fast speed of traffic on this road. A crossing of some kind would allow people living on both sides to cross safely; particularly benefiting youngsters travelling by bus to school as well as elderly and disabled residents. There was general support from the Council and Councillor Thomas agreed to obtain more evidence to support a request for a crossing, including details on how often people crossed this road at different times of the day.

The stone bench on the church green has been cleaned and looks fantastic.

Three new heavy metal litter bins have been purchased by the Parish Council and installed at Thursley Road Recreation Ground,

The Council noted that Elstead Football Club has now obtained the safety certificate for the floodlights at Burford Lodge Recreation Ground, enabling them to restart practise sessions for up to three evenings a week during the dark winter months. The floodlights sub-committee will continue to meet in order to seek improvements to the lighting system. There are still some adjustments needed to reduce light overspill.

Councillors Bryn Morgan and Andrew Jones reported on their meeting with Guardian Court residents regarding the proposals by the owners, Anchor Trust, to rebuild the premises and relocate current residents. They were happy to report that although the property in its current state was unacceptable and inadequate for the purpose, residents reported that they were pleased that they were being kept fully informed and their relocation wishes taken into consideration.

More residents have expressed a wish for an allotment, making about 20 enquiries so far.  Two areas of land have been set aside for the purpose; currently overgrown plots owned by Waverley Borough Council at Broomfield and Hazelwood. The Council still needs to clear the land and organise water supplies to both sites.

The next meeting is at 7.30 pm on Monday, 17th November at the URC Hall, Elstead.
The public is welcome and anyone wishing to raise a matter relating to Council business is able to do so at 8 pm. See you there!
