GUARDIAN COURT

A number of village folk have expressed a natural interest in the future of the sheltered accommodation provided at Guardian Court, particularly since residents have begun to move out and shutters appeared over the windows.

At a meeting with village representatives, Bryn Morgan, Denis Holmes, and the Rev William Lang, the owners of Guardian Court, Anchor Trust, explained their plans for the future of the site.

The present flats are somewhat dated and have serious design problems, particularly for elderly and disabled residents.  The intention, therefore, is to demolish the present buildings and re-design and re-build new flats that are fit for purpose and provide modern, practical, sheltered accommodation.

Many of the details are yet to be determined, but in general terms the Trust is thinking along the lines of providing some twenty flats, each with bathroom and kitchen facilities, and all fully accessible to the disabled.  The flats will, as at present, be organised on two floors, and include a lift.  Current draft proposals are that each flat will provide one single and one double bedroom, although flats may be available to single residents as well as to couples.  A day-time warden service is also proposed.

It is intended that the construction design will be more traditional, in style, and will blend better into the village scene than do the present buildings. Some of the garden area to the front, together with the wall and it's school plaque, will remain and parking is to be organised at the rear of the building.

After preliminary discussions with the planners at Waverley in December, it is proposed to hold an open meeting, with the Trust, in the village hall so that everyone can see the proposals and comment: hopefully this can take place early in the new year.  So, watch this space !

CHRISTMAS RECYCLING

Here is a quick reminder of what can and cannot be put in our kerbside boxes at Christmas:

The small plastic box is for all glass bottles and jars with lids/corks removed. Do not include any other glass like drinking glasses, light bulbs or Pyrex.

The large lidded box is for newspaper and magazines, white envelopes (can be 'window' envelopes) and all other white paper/card including Christmas cards and wrapping paper (but not foil type). Shredded paper should not be put in.

The large box with mesh cover is for drinks/food cans and aerosols as well as plastic bottles (preferably with caps removed) but absolutely no other plastics such as food containers although they may show recycling symbols.

On 11th December, Verity O'Connell from Waverley's Environmental Services will be coming to Butterflies Nursery in Thursley to talk to the children and parents about Christmas recycling. Verity has told me she is happy to come to talk about recycling to village groups of any age.  If you are interested you can give her a call on 01483 523243.
