LOCAL DOCTOR CYCLES FOR THE STROKE ASSOCIATION.

Dr. Helen Grisewood will be cycling from London to Paris starting on Saturday 10th September to raise funds for the Stroke Association, the Springfield Surgery patients Group learned at the recent meeting with the Doctors.

Dr. Grisewood has, for the past 4 years, cycled the London-Brighton event to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation but this new venture is more demanding.

She has to raise £1,300 by June before she is allowed to enter the event. Obviously, she hopes eventually to raise more, but this is the minimum she must raise in order to qualify to participate.

If you feel you would like to support her in this very worthwhile fund-raising effort you can find Sponsorship forms at the Surgery's reception desk. If you are able to use the internet, then she has a sponsorship address that you could transfer money to with your bank card:

We  hope that you can support her and wish her success!

ELSTEAD ROYAL BRITISH LEGION WOMEN'S SECTION

The Meeting held on 12th February, had as it's speaker Sandra Morgan JP, who gave a very lively and entertaining talk on her past life and her memories of the Royal Family from George V and Queen Mary to the abdication and up to the present day. She had souvenirs of those days, a flag she had waved as a child, and several Coronation cups which had belonged to her Father.

In 1994, together with her husband Eric, she attended the Buckingham Palace Garden Party, and described her search for a morning suit for Eric and a suitable outfit for herself and we were shown a picture of them both taken on that day, the hat worn and the windscreen ticket which enabled then to park in the Mall. Sandra gave description of the foreign dignitaries in national dress, the flower borders, and the ducks and flamingos on the lake, sadly no longer there due to a predatory fox, also the orchard of fruit trees each planted by members of the Royal Family.. The talk certainly brightened the afternoon following this bout of very bad weather.

The next Meeting is 12th March when we hope to have a demonstration on flower arranging and in May there is a proposed trip to Bognor, if anyone who was not at the February Meeting, is interested in going they should contact Sandra, please, on 702050.
