ROYAL BRITISH LEGION 60 YEARS AT STACY'S FARM

To celebrate 60 years at Stacy's Farm  on Saturday 23rd of May there will be an open day the anniversary of the handover of the buildings on 21st May 1949

There event will start before mid-day with an opening ceremony. There will be a number of stalls and other activity of interest around the premises.  There will be music all day, and the bowls green will be busy with players dressed in white, and of course the bar will be open.

The branch would be interested to hear from anyone who was a member of the branch and club in 1949.

THE  NEW  BRITISH   LEGION   HEADQUARTERS.

So many of Elstead's residents were present at the opening of Stacey's Farm as  Headquarters and Club of the Elstead British Legion that it is unnecessary, after all, to give a detailed account of these very fine premises, which were officially declared open by Mrs. J. Billmeir on May 21st.

It would be difficult to find a headquarters and club premises of any organisation so beautifully situated and so well and comfortably equipped. The bowling green is, in itself, a thing of joy to all lovers of " the woods "; the club room is, in every detail, expressive of comfort and good fellowship; and the barn, with its billiard table, opens up endless possibilities of really worth while use. Nor must we forget the final" touch of the borders of trees, flowering shrubs and plants.

Although the first use to which these premises are to be put is to serve the British Legion, Mr. Billmeir has very wisely sought to cover any possible change of circumstances in the years to come, and the premises are therefore held by trustees so that they may be used, so long as Elstead desires them, for the welfare of the inhabitants of our village.

This is a great and munificent gift, and the only worthy expression of thanks is a determination by the users of this benefaction to manage and use it as a centre which will, both now and in the future, add to the happiness and comradeship of our village life.
