YOUR COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU

As an organisation we the police work with various partner agencies such as the local authority, housing associations, schools, highways, etc etc however the one partner that is under used is you the community. Some of you reading this already help us a great deal, and there will be some of you who will be asking how can I help? Well you can in three ways.

Firstly you can either set up a Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) group in your area, or join an existing NHW in your area. NHW really is an effective tool in our fight against crime, by belonging to a group you are alerted to crimes in your area usually much earlier than reading about them in
the local press.

Secondly we have a group known as Farmwatch. Farmwatch is similar to NHW but as the name suggests it is for Farms and rural properties, if you become a member of Farmwatch you are alerted by regular emails as to the goings on ( crime wise ) of matters concerning rural communities. We let you know of crime trends and particular vehicles to look out for.

And last but not least we have Community Speed Watch ( CSW ) this is a group of at least six volunteers who are trained by us to use a hand held speed gun, you then in pairs monitor speed levels on a designated road in your area, you make a note of the index's of any drivers caught  driving above a certain limit and then forward the details to us. We in turn write to the registered keeper advising them that ( CSW ) have recorded their vehicle breaking the speed limit and reminding them of the dangers associated with speed.

If you feel that you would like to set up a NHW in your area, join Farmwatch, or would like to volunteer to join a ( CSW ) please contact me and I can put you in touch with the relevant people.

STOP PRESS

At the public police forum held on Thursday the 12th of February at the URC which was extremely well attended the majority of people voted that the number 1 subject for police action in the village was the subject of parking/riding on the footpaths of the village, both incidentally carry a fine of £30 so please in these credit crunch times look after your money and do not park or ride your cycles on the village footpaths. Because that is what they are FOOTPATHS. You have been warned. Another subject was raised and that was the riding of a quad bike through the village usually late at night, if that is you or you know who it is please pass this message on. Cease this practice, or else you may lose the quad bike under section 59 of the Road Traffic Act. Again be warned.
