NEWS FROM ELSTEAD PARISH COUNCIL

At our February Parish Council meeting we took the formal decision to go ahead with the provision of allotments on the land at the rear of Burford Lodge Recreation Ground. A well attended meeting of people who wish to apply for an allotment has been held and there was agreement to set up an Elstead Allotment Association.  The Council is examining the best method of access to the field and the erection of fencing and gates. We need to provide car parking facilities but we hope that many people will walk to the allotments. A gate from the recreation ground into the allotments is to be installed..

Over 1000  people signed the petition to get a safe crossing of the Milford Rd which will be presented to the SCC/ Waverley Local Committee on 13th March by two parents and children assisted by Councillor Bryn Morgan. We realise that it will be difficult to locate a pedestrian crossing but at the least we are hoping for a pedestrian refuge or island with bollards.

Heavy rains this winter have caused flooding in parts of the village and we have reported four particular key areas for research and remedy -
Milford Rd  - the utility drain east of the Donkey pub
Westbrook Lane - the depression at the bottom of the hill
ThursleyRd - between Woolfords lane and the Moat.
Milford Rd - near Broomfield.

We have given Help In Elstead a grant of £250 to help with their running expenses. Many thanks to all the volunteers who do such a superb job in Elstead carrying out help for the sick and older folk or anyone who is in difficulty and  needs a helping hand.

The Annual Parish Meeting is on Monday 20th April at 7.30 in the URC Hall.- this is your opportunity to put questions to the Parish Council and to make suggestions for improvements to our village.
