ELSTEAD CRICKET CLUB JUNIOR SECTION - FAMILY MORNING

The cricket season is nearly here and the Elstead Cricket Club Junior Section is looking for new members and players. This year we will be holding a Family Morning from 9:30 to 12:00 on Saturday 18th April  at the Elstead Cricket Club ground, Thursley Road. This is the first day of our outdoor practice sessions attended by all our managers, our qualified and fully insured coaches and support staff. Please come along if you think your son or daughter would be interested in playing cricket with us or if you would like to help with the youth teams in any way. The Elstead Cricket Club has ECB ClubMark status covering child protection and welfares issues and provides all necessary equipment for all ages, with refreshments on training and match days.

The Junior Section has 4 age groups: Under 15s, Under 13s, Under 11s and Under 9s. The three older groups all play in the 20 / 20 Berkeley Sports Two Counties Youth Cricket Leagues, which involve a series of matches against other local village and town sides. The teams also take part in knockout cup matches and friendly matches.

Coaching and nets practice for the U13s and U11s is held at our Thursley Road ground on Saturday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 starting from 18th April.  The U9s have coaching on  Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 11:30 using 'Kwik cricket' lightweight bats and soft balls.

The U15s have their practice sessions on Friday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 with the first session on Friday 17th April.

Details of the membership arrangements, which includes social membership of the Cricket Club for parents, or any further information regarding the club can be obtained either at the Family Morning on the 18th April , or by contacting:

MARCH BRING & TAKE MORNING

I read recently in an environmental website (www.ooffoo.com) that ninety nine percent of what we buy ends up in landfill within six months. Well, at our last Bring and Take morning on 14th March approximately two thirds of the items brought in found new homes within two hours!  As on previous occasions, all the left-over books were taken off to Frimely Park Hospital where £2,000 and £2,500 a month is made from their book stall with the money going to hospital funds to buy necessary equipment.  The left-over clothes, televisions and electric items were recycled by us and Waverley took the remains away having assured us that all the metal would be taken out for re-use.

Unfortunately old or unwanted furniture is too big for a B&T event but instead can be offered to:
The Furniture Helpline - 01420 489000 www.thefurniturehelpline.org.uk
or
Fleet Lions - 01252 616998.  Both these local charities pass the furniture on to the needy.

Video cassettes have become a problem to recycle being obsolete technology - charity shops can't sell them and they cannot be put in with hard plastics because of the soft tape inside.  Instead you could turn them into something useful like a DVD Tower by sticking them together with strong plastic adhesive.  If you are interested I have a photo.

Finally, many thanks to my committed band of helpers, Ginny, Dene and John, and to everyone who took items away for re-use.  Without you, these things would be in landfill by now!
