THE GODALMING AND DISTRICT BRANCH OF THE NCT - YOUR BRANCH

The Godalming and District branch of the National Childbirth Trust covers Godalming and its surrounding villages: it is run by parents, for parents - who are all volunteers. We aim to meet new parents and parents-to-be, helping them through the transition to parenthood, as well as offering plenty of opportunities to socialise in a child-friendly and informal way.

Area reps hold regular get togethers, with coffee/tea and cakes. Bumps, babes and toddlers are welcome at any area rep event. Events can be simply a chat and play at home, or walks, feeding the ducks or meeting at the swings.

Bumps & Babes is the regular meeting in Godalming United Church for expectant mums and those with babies up to about one year old. This group is fantastic for new parents (Dads too!) and bumps, with regular talks/events, but with plenty of time to relax and find other people going through the same experiences as yourself (or better still, those who have just gone through and survived!). The group meets every Tuesday 10 am until 12 noon during term time at Godalming United Church. Refreshments and a warm welcome will await you.

We also hold some regular events: our Easter Egg Hunt at Ramster Gardens near Chiddingfold is very popular. This year's hunt is on Friday 3rd April between 3 pm and 5 pm (the hunt starts prompt at 3.30 pm). Our 'No Bangs' fireworks party in November is designed for young children to attend without the loud bangs that can scare them. Obviously, no fireworks are silent, but we do our best to avoid those that might spoil the event for everyone.

There are also nights out for mums (and dads) to get together and chat and enjoy some adult conversation and good food.

Our Nearly New Sales are incredibly busy and the most fantastic place to pick up a bargain (or ten!). People who help are able to attend the preview sale, saving all the time queuing up the road! If you have a houseful and desperately need more space, it's a great way to recycle things, and make some money for you and the branch. Our spring sale on 28th March was another success and we'll be holding another one on Saturday 17th October at Borough Hall in Godalming.

For information on any of the events, or for queries on how to join, please contact us on 0844 243 6139 or email us at general@godalmingnct.org.uk.

LEONARD CHESHIRE DISABILITY - HYDON HILL

Hydon Hill is a specially adapted residential care home with nursing beds for 43 disabled adults near Godalming in rural Surrey.  The Residents come to live at the home as a result of a long term or acquired physical disability as they are no longer able to be cared for in their own homes.

Leonard Cheshire Disability supports over 21,000 disabled people in the UK and around the world, campaigning for change in attitude to disabled people and giving disabled people the opportunity to live their lives as independently as possible.

As well as a team of committed staff, the home relies on the dedicated help of their Volunteers and this year we are looking to recruit more in a variety of roles.  Just a few of the many and varied roles we offer include Bar helpers, Gardeners, Befrienders, Physio and Activities helpers.

The home is looking for people to help fund-raise for a new specially adapted replacement vehicle.  This is urgently needed to enable Residents to get out and about.  We would love someone who has time on their hands, to enlist the help of other friends or relatives and form a new support fund-raising group.

On site we have our own large Charity Shop, open Monday to Friday 11 am to 3 pm.  The shop is
