GOOD COMPANIONS

Our Meeting on Thursday 26th March was made most enjoyable by a talk by a remarkable lady traveller with the name of Mrs. Victoria. Her name was particularly relevant to most Indian people she met because of the memory of Queen Victoria and anyone with her Christian  name was welcomed everywhere she went. And she certainly travelled a lot while working and teaching in schools and institutions. This travel meant using trains very often on overnight journeys and Mrs. Victoria told us about many unusual situations for a single lady on her own, learned about the lovely saris, and indeed Mrs. Victoria was dressed in traditional clothes, as well as hearing about, and smelling bowls of spices. I think we must have all felt we had been with her on this journey - what a lady !

After our usual good tea we had a raffle with many lovely prizes and this reminds me personally what good value and companionship we get on a monthly basis for a nominal entry fee and a reasonable yearly subscription. New members would be most welcome - try us and see! Our next meeting is on Thursday 23rd April and the talk then will be on Deaf Awareness.

ELSTEAD ROYAL BRITISH LEGION WOMEN'S SECTION

On 9th April the Members were entertained by a talk given by P.C. Rob Hawkes, the Specialist Neighborhood Officer (NSO) for the Elstead area.   A policeman for 18 years most of which time has been spent in Elstead and surrounding villages, he is stationed at Farnham. and lives there with his family.

He holds a public forum at the URC Church periodically, and this is usually very well attended, the main problems discussed being, cars parked on pavements, speeding, bad lighting and bikes being ridden on footpaths to the detriment of pedestrians. We all had a very entertaining , informative and interesting afternoon and Rob is obviously very well liked by both the Ladies present and the Villagers in general

The next Meeting is a week earlier than usual on the 7th May, this is a coach trip to Bognor.
