ELSTEAD PARISH COUNCIL

Allotments

The allotments project will reach the final planning stage by the end of April and the parish council will finalise the arrangements at a meeting on Monday 27th April.  The Steering Group for the proposed Allotments Association will present their suggestions at a public meeting shortly afterwards when the Association will become official and the work can then begin

The response to the calls for expressions of interest in an allotment has been moderately good and most are expected to become firm applications.  If any resident would like to join the list of potential allotmenteers, please let me know, as quickly as possible.  The number of allotments created will depend entirely upon the number of people who have completed the formal expression of interest form

More details about the final agreed scheme will be available in the next issue of Elstead Village News

RECYCLING REPORT
New Bins for Hard Plastics:

I wonder how many of you saw the Surrey Advertiser article in March about the new bins Waverley has installed at key 'bring sites' for recycling plastics. The new bins are at Sainsbury's Godalming and Farnham, Beacon Hill, Hindhead and Wey Hill, Haslemere.

The bins are for recycling plastic items (mostly food containers of some sort) which have the symbols 1 to 6 in a small triangle or the letters PET, HDPE, PP or PS on the base.  Waverley has told me that not all items will have a symbol since it is up to the manufacturer to mark them.

Here are the main items you can use these bins for:

  • Plastic bottles
  • Yogurt pots
  • Margarine tubs
  • Ice cream tubs
  • Microwavable tubs
  • Plastic plant pots
  • Plastic containers
  • Plastic food trays
  • Plastic lids/caps

The following items must not be put in these bins:

  • Plastic bags, Bubble wrap, Cling film

It is important to note that if bins are full you should take your recycling home and try another time. Bags of recycling left next to bins are taken to landfill because they often become contaminated.

Well done Waverley - my rubbish is now reduced to one black bag instead of two!
