ELSTEAD AFTERNOON W.I

53 people attended the Village Hall for the May meeting and President, Betty Moxon welcomed 1 new member.

The Coffee Morning and Plant Sale on 2nd May had proved to be very successful and there will be an Afternoon Tea/Plant Sale at another member's garden on 14th May, and a further Coffee Morning, Cake & Plant Sale at the end of May, again at a member's house.  These events are all to raise funds for Charity.

The Committee had earmarked 3 possibilities for the summer outing in August and members were asked to vote on these.  The choices were Stonor House near Henley-on-Thames, Titsey Place - a lovely house near Oxted or a trip to Chichester to visit the Cathedral and shops, followed by a boat trip around Chichester Harbour.

This month was the Resolution Meeting  "SOS for Honeybees".  Betty gave a comprehensive talk about the decline in the honeybee population pointing out that bees are the underpinning that keeps the world going as they build a vital link in pollinating crops.  Beekeepers are urging the Government to increase funding, fearing that bees may be extinct within 10 years because of the problems with pesticides.  The Resolution was discussed at length and passed unanimously but a discretionary vote was given to our delegate who will attend the NFWI AGM at the Royal Albert Hall in June.

The afternoon finished with a quiz which was much enjoyed by all.

The next meeting will be on 4th June.
