ELSTEAD PARISH COUNCIL ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING

Reporting on the meeting held on 20th April 2009
At this year's lively Annual Council meeting, Chairman Denis Holmes reviewed what has proved to be a busy year for the Parish Council.

He spoke about a number of topics and highlights include:

  • the installation of play equipment at Burford Lodge Recreation Ground.
  • the many small improvements such as the installation of litter bins at both recreation grounds, the cleaning of the stone seat at Church Green and the new seat at Milford Road's bus stop.
  • the well-supported petition for a pedestrian crossing on the Milford Road.
  • the introduction of gateways welcoming visitors to Elstead. A vehicle activated sign is due to be installed soon.
  • the donation of grants to various village organisations such as the village hall and Help in Elstead
  • Strong input on concerns about the closure and rebuilding of Guardian Court.
  • Reponse to the Waverley Planning Strategy consultation.
  • Tree work, still ongoing, at Burford Lodge and Woolfords Lane cemetery.
  • Liaison with police regarding the anti social behaviour of bikers on Hankley Common.
  • Plans to convert the Council-owned Burford Lodge Back Land into 20-30 allotments to be run by a newly-formed Allotment Association, which will be overseen by the Parish Council.

Future projects this year will include the completion of the allotments, installing car park improvements at Burford Lodge and pressing for better safety measures on the Milford Road.
Questions from the public included comments on the illegality of fly tipping, the condition of the Milford Road telephone box and irregular street cleaning on Thursley Road.

DEACONS' ORDINATION SERVICE - SUNDAY 05 JULY

Peter Muir will be ordained Deacon on Sunday 05 July 2009 in Guildford Cathedral. The service starts at 10:30 and everyone from both parishes is invited to support Peter by attending this service. The usual 10:00 service in both St James, Elstead and St Michael and All Angels, Thursley have been cancelled on that date.

There are plenty of unreserved seats for supporters from both our parishes who wish to attend the service. No tickets will be issued for anyone, apart from the allocation to the candidates which Peter is using for his family, personal guests and the Local Training Group. Seating for all other supporters will be on a first come, first served basis and, as parking is limited, it is suggested that groups from parishes should share vehicles wherever possible.

From past experience you should plan to be seated in the Cathedral just after 10:00 and by 10:15 at the very latest. Please leave plenty of time for parking and getting into the Cathedral. There will be many people coming to the service

For any further information please contact
Peter Muir on 702360 or by email to petermuir@cellarworld.co.uk
