FROM
ELSTEAD
PARISH
COUNCIL
Reporting on the meeting held
on 26th May 2009
Councillor Denis Holmes was re-elected as Chairman of Elstead Parish Council for the forthcoming
year.
We discussed objectives, as outlined by Councillor Holmes, for the next year. These include
completing the allotment project, negotiating improved traffic calming measures along the
Milford Road, completing tree work and landscaping at the Woolfords Lane cemetery and continuing
grass improvement at both recreation grounds.
Councillor Pat Murphy noted that treatment with fertiliser and weedkiller at the Thursley
Road recreation ground had "worked miracles to produce first class results", showing that
with a relatively modest input much could be achieved.
Councillor Sally Place showed Councillors a proposed questionnaire, which she hoped would
enable Elstead residents, including parents, carers and children, to have their say on how
the Thursley Road playground could best be developed. This will be circulated at the two pre-schools
and St James Primary School. Extra copies of the questionnaire are also available beside
the school office.
The new village gateways were discussed and Councillors expressed disappointment that they
did not carry the 30 mph sign as well as road markings to drive the 'slow down' message to
motorists passing through Elstead. They looked forward to seeing the vehicle activated sign
installed on Milford Road.
The Council reviewed and accepted the recommended allotment proposals put forward by the Council
allotment sub-group, comprising Bryn Morgan, Pat Murphy, Andrew Jones and Tic Jeffery. The
project is well underway, and by now the first meeting of the Elstead Village Allotment Association
(EVAA) will have been held.
The next meeting is at 7.30 pm on 20th July 2009 at the URC Hall, Milford Road,
Elstead. The public is welcome and anyone wishing to raise a matter relating to Council business
is able to do so at 8.00 pm. See you there!
