Before senility strikes, let me alert you to the fact that the next meeting on 13th July 2009, is at Hampton Estate.  Cars will assemble at 7.30 p.m. opposite the  Village Hall and the motorcade will set off at 7.45 p.m. Please car share.

This months lecture was 'Greenhouse Culture' by Mr Dobell.  It transpires that the mysteries of the green house differ widely from those of the proverbially male commandeered garden shed, as the green house is a quiet and controlled personal space suitable for both sexes and their activities therein!

This serious lecture was delivered by a quietly spoken gentleman of wide practical experience, head of a team providing plants for a large Sussex estate.  His meticulous research advised us about the basics of choosing a green house, with which facilities, and where to site it and the necessary water supplies .  He explained the temperatures required for different types of usage, the summer shading, the qualities of composts and the absolute necessity of strict cleanliness in the control of pests and diseases, which care tiny plants need just as much as human babies.

Mr Dobells concluding advice was to communicate and get answers to your queries from gardening friends who have their own expertise, and, after all, that is surely what our garden club is all about, isn't it?  We were shown slides of the estates wonderful stands of hanging baskets, tubs, planters, raised beds and long borders, and the evening ended as usual with raffle prizes and refreshments.
