FROM DAVID HARMER,
SURREY COUNTY COUNCILLOR FOR WAVERLEY WESTERN VILLAGES

I would like to thank the people of Elstead for their support in the recent County Council election. I do recognise that not everyone voted for me and some people did not vote at all. I also accept that it is essential for the survival of democracy that there should be different political views. I will therefore continue to do my best to represent everyone in all the Western villages, and to help you if you need assistance with any matter that the County Council deals with.

This was the most difficult election I have ever been involved in. Most people I spoke to, quite understandably, wanted to talk about the turmoil at Westminster, and I wanted to listen to their views, most of which I agreed with. But as a result we were able to call on only just over half the houses. If you were one of those we didn't get round to and you would like to discuss any matter with me, please let me know. My email address is
david.harmer@surreycc.gov.uk and my telephone number is 01428-609792.

THANK YOU

A big thank you for sponsoring me in the London Marathon which took place on April 26th 2009. I have been overwhelmed by everyone's generosity in helping me with my fund-raising efforts.

Despite the warmer weather, I finished the 26.2 mile course in 4 hours, 33 minutes, 29 seconds and even managed to do a sprint finish at the end. I am not really sure where that burst of energy came from!

More importantly I have raised over £3,450 for The Beacon Cancer and Palliative Care Centre, Guildford

On behalf of the Beacon Centre, thank you for your generous donations.

With heart felt thanks

Ruth Jansen

DEACONS' ORDINATION SERVICE - SUNDAY 05 JULY

Peter Muir will be ordained Deacon on Sunday 05th July 2009 in Guildford Cathedral. The service starts at 10:30 and everyone from both parishes is invited to support Peter by attending this service. The usual 10:00 service in both St James, Elstead and St Michael and All Angels, Thursley have been cancelled on that date.

There are plenty of unreserved seats for supporters from both our parishes who wish to attend the service. No tickets will be issued for anyone, apart from the allocation to the candidates which Peter is using for his family, personal guests and the Local Training Group. Seating for all other supporters will be on a first come, first served basis and, as parking is limited, it is suggested that groups from parishes should share vehicles wherever possible.

From past experience you should plan to be seated in the Cathedral just after 10:00 and by 10:15 at the very latest. Please leave plenty of time for parking and getting into the Cathedral. There will be many people coming to the service

For any further information please contact
Peter Muir on 702360 or by email to petermuir@cellarworld.co.uk
