NEWS FROM ELSTEAD PARISH COUNCIL

Reporting on the meeting held on 15th June 2009

Just one member of the public attended and during question time, she suggested that more publicity would boost public attendance. However, notice of meetings are always on the Parish Council notice board - outside the Spar shop - at least three days before each meeting. If any Elstead resident has any comments to make on this subject, we would be interested to hear.

Following the last meeting when Councillor Sally Place confirmed that she would be  circulating a questionnaire asking Elstead residents for feedback on how the Thursley Road playground could best be developed, we have been delighted to receive a huge response. We are sure there are still a few to come in. Extra copies of the questionnaire are available beside the St James Primary School office and completed forms can also be left there.

The village gateways were discussed and Councillors decided to request that the 30mph sign and red road markings should be added, as originally requested. The Milford Road vehicle-activated sign was proving effective in reminding motorists to slow down.

The inaugural meeting of the Elstead Village Allotment Association (EVAA) was a great success. Tenders are currently being sought for fencing and spraying.  The EVAA has many plans for the future, including a website.

At the last meeting, Councillor Place suggested installing six benches made from recycled plastic around the Thursley Road Recreation Ground. Councillors were happy to consider the suggestion, particularly as the existing seats were showing signs of wear. They were also delighted to hear that one resident had asked to fund a bench with a memorial plaque. The Council hoped that local residents or businesses would consider sponsoring a bench too. Please get in touch with Chris Newman, the Parish Clerk, on 01252 811624 for more details.

Councillor Richard Terry gave a cogent report on the Waverley Borough Council Planning Consultative Forum, following his attendance of this key meeting. Full details are in the meeting minutes available online at
http://www.elstead.org.uk and at the Thursley Road Post Office.

The next meeting is at 7.30 pm on 17th August 2009 at the URC Hall, Milford Road, Elstead. The public is welcome and anyone wishing to raise a matter relating to Council business is able to do so at 8 pm. See you there!

Sally Place, Parish Councillor

THURSLEY REC BENCH SPONSORSHIP

Elstead Parish Council would like to install recycled plastic benches around the Thursley Road Recreation Ground. To keep costs down, it is hoped that local businesses will consider sponsoring a bench. In addition, individuals may like to fund a bench with a personal memorial plaque.

If you are interested, please contact the Parish Council Clerk, Chris Newman, on 01252 811624. He will give an idea of likely costs.
