POPPY
APPEAL.
National Grief on Armistice Day in 1919 must have been rather
different from the Remembrance Day today when at War Memorials
we remember the dead of various conflicts. In 1919 they
were mostly concerned with the dead of the "Great War".
Of course the mourners of 1919 had no idea that they not
only had the last war to think about. In all too brief a
time another "World War" loomed, and more names to add to
war memorials post 1945. Since 1945 in living memory, a
long list of conflicts have happened - Korea, Suez, Kenya,
Bosnia, The Gulf, Iraq, The Falklands, and now Afghanistan.
Our losses go on !
I salute those in Wooton Bassett who line the streets with
silent tribute for the fallen of the present day.
Please help us with the Poppy Appeal this year by collecting
to help the those present day families who have lost so
much, and the war generation, sometimes too frail to look
after themselves. Contact me by phone, or write to
me.
