RECYCLING REPORT

Our fifth Bring & Take Morning was held last month on Saturday, 12th September. This time, thanks to Jane Alexander, Guildford's Project Co-ordinator (recycling), there was also an exhibition of recycled goods, a working wormery and lots of information to inspire people to keep recycling and hopefully recycle even more. Considering we had been asked not to accept electrics by Surrey County Council, the hall was not short of unwanted goods and clothes - everything from an antique cutlery box to a large oil tank which arrived in the form of a photograph.

As on previous occasions, roughly two thirds of everything was re-homed and therefore not sent to landfill. The few books that were not taken went to Frimley Park Hospital, the leftover clothes were taken to clothes banks and a box of bric-a-brac and a large teddy went to Barnardos. Everything else was taken to Witley Community Recycling Centre and recycled if possible. Due to budget cuts Waverley Borough Council was unable to fund a truck for this so we did it ourselves in four car loads. This took volunteers' valuable time and effort so there will probably be only one Bring and Take event next year.

Once again my thanks go to my helpers John Gunner, Ginny Lindley and Dene Mills as well as Richard Bates who manned the exhibition.

P.S. Unwanted electrical goods can be re-homed on line at Freecycle or Swap it Surrey.
