WHY
BUY
FROM
TRAIDCRAFT?
We go far beyond simply applying fair trade standards to
our products. Innovating, campaigning, building lasting
relationships with our suppliers, and engaging in a wide
range of charitable projects as well, Traidcraft and our
supporters really are fair trade pioneers. Do you know its
history?
1979
Founded as a Christian response to poverty, selling from
a warehouse in Newcastle.
1980
Introduced the first fair trade foods (tea and coffee came
first).
1986
Launch of Traidcraft Exchange, the UK's only development
charity specialising in making trade work for the poor.
1987
Launch of a range of fair trade clothing.
1992
Was a key member of a consortium that launched Cafedirect
into supermarkets and created the Fairtrade Foundation.
1999
Launch of Geobar, the first Fairtrade cereal bar.
2002
Worked alongside the Co-op to bring the first Fairtrade
wines into the UK.
2006
Worked with Fairtrade Labelling Organisation on developing
Fairtrade cotton and introduced our Indian partner Agrocel
to Marks & Spencer.
2009
After 10 years of working with Mauritian sugar farmers,
we have received our first shipment of Fairtrade marked
sugar, launched the UK's first Fairtrade pasta, Fairtrade
rubber gloves and worked with the Co-op to launch the first
Fairtrade charcoal.
Today, Traidcraft is working with more than 100 groups in
over 30 countries.
Thank you all who supported my stall at the Charity Card
and Gift event. It proved to be the most successful
event for my stall so far. The help I received from
members of my family and from Mrs Joy Dorey was tremendous.
Thank you all.
The last sale for this year will be at the Coffee Morning
at the United Reformed Church on Saturday 5th
December, 10 am - 12 noon, with the special charity sale.
