ELSTEAD AFTERNOON WI.

Meeting Report for December 2009

Around 60 members gathered to celebrate the start of the Christmas season with a seasonal concert. President Betty Moxon reported on the recent Beetle Drive and Ursula Dunlop's highly successful coffee morning raising money for a bench on the Thursley Road Recreation Ground. She also described the new procedures for choosing the resolutions to be discussed at next year's AGM. Instead of the voting being done by a few people at county meetings, now every member had to chance to vote for the resolution they most wanted to see debated. Voting forms were in the edition of WI Life that had just arrived and would need to be handed in to the January meeting. That edition also showed the smart new WI logo which would come in to use next year.

Mary Sharp, the retiring Treasurer, presented the annual accounts which had now been audited. All was in order and our balances were healthy, especially as we were at the end of our year of fundraising for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice and the new bench on the Recreation Ground. Mary was given a round of applause for all her hard work.

We were then entertained by three members of the Millionheirs - usually a quartet. However they formed an excellent trio who gave a concert of advent and Christmas songs, both secular and religious, that were varied and full of delight. They certainly got our Christmas off to a very good start.

The next meeting is on 7th January 2010 when renowned local photographer Len Deeley will be sharing Adventures with his Camera and the competition will be a local photo. Visitors are always welcome at our meetings - come with a friend or just show up at 2.15 and join the happy throng.

THURSLEY REC BENCH SPONSORSHIP

Elstead Parish Council has installed three recycled plastic benches around the Thursley Road Recreation Ground. It would like to increase the total to six and to make this possible, it is hoped that local businesses or individuals will consider sponsoring a bench.  The costs are fairly reasonable, so if you are interested, please contact the Parish Council Clerk, Chris Newman, on 01252 811624.
